The Hiding Place

I took this video of Silas a few weeks ago:

When I first watched him doing this, I thought it was funny how kids want to hide in small places and be completely covered w/ blankets, so they can feel safe and protected. We've all done this as kids, but what do we do now that we are adults? The Bible says in Psalms 32:7a that "You (God) are a hiding place for me, you will keep me from distress;" and again in 119:114 "You are my hiding-place and shield; I put my hope in your word."

I love that it says that He will keep us from "distress." So many of us have things that worry or hurt us, and we don't know how to handle them. They can be overwhelming, even paralyzing at times. But, David tells us exactly where to go when trouble begins. He knew to hide in God and in his word, because there we find the only real peace. That's where I am hiding today, with the Great I AM!

Sweet Sleep

I was in the kitchen cleaning up after we had company over for dinner last Friday night. It was about 10:30 or so and I had told the kids to get their PJ's on and get ready for bed. Silas went upstairs, got his pajamas on, and came back down to brush his teeth, only he didn't make it to the bathroom. He stopped at the bottom of the stairs, told me he was tired and laid down on the floor. I was busy cleaning up and didn't realize that he had fallen asleep right there! He must have been laying there for about 10-15 minutes before I realized that he was really asleep. He didn't even make it to the bathroom to brush his teeth! Talk about being able to sleep anywhere!

Part of School Work . . .

I gave the girls an extra assignment today: making homemade chocolate chip cookies. It gives them good practice in following directions, using their math skills w/ fractions, and oh, did I mention I get to reap the rewards of their hard work? The cookies were YUMMY! I may have to make this part of their assignments more often :))
